Himakom was formed on 13th August 2006 by the first class of communication sciences in 2005 at the law faculty of Trunojoyo University, Madura. After a year-long struggle from 2005-2006, the legal battle of HIMAKOM (Student Association of Communication Studies) was finally approved by the Law Faculty’s Student Executive Body (BEM). Apart from BEM, the Law Faculty agreed to provide regular funding of Rp. 5000,- per month for HIMAKOM. This arrangement was agreed upon and approved by the initial batch of 11 (eleven) students (the initial batch initially consisted of 17 students, which reduced to 11).
The budget from the fees is used to enhance the activities of Communication Science students, one example being the Department Training or also known as DJ for Communication Science. As was the case during the implementation of the Communication Science Department Training, it drew protests from the Student Executive Body (BEM), Student Association (HMJ), and Faculty Student Unit (UKMF) of the Law Faculty due to the relatively high fees charged to students from other study programs.
The budget sourced from the response of new Communication Science students will be effective because the situation and conditions strongly support the delivery of information. Knowledge about the HIMAKOM organization is also provided by HIMAKOM officials as a foundation for organization to the Communication Science students of the 2006 batch. The initial implementation of the Communication Science Department Training (DJ) created inspiration for subsequent events in different settings and timeframes compared to other study programs (in terms of venue, event concept, and unique new student orientation).
